Quotes, client reports and payments arrive in the case file

From the first paper in a matter to collecting the fee, an AI that needs no account with any provider, and a chat that shows what it is doing.

JUDLEX reaches version 1.0.

Until now JUDLEX read, numbered and cited the papers of a matter. From this release it also quotes the work, explains the case file to the client and keeps track of what has been paid, using the firm's own rates and the logo and signature of whoever signs. Alongside come a backup in the firm's own cloud, a way to use artificial intelligence without opening an account with any provider, and a chat that shows its work.

The status report builds itself

The Reports tab of a case file gathers, with no AI spend at all, where the matter stands: client, court, procedure number and type, key figures, a timeline with one lane for whoever signs each step, what the papers ask for, the dates, the key facts, the parties, and what is missing or does not add up. Anything JUDLEX cannot attribute goes to «Unidentified», never to the opposing side. Each item opens its paper at the right page, and a notice says how many pages have not been read yet, because what has not been read is not in the report.

It exports to PDF with the firm's letterhead and a signature line, into the case file's Reports folder, stamped with date and time and never overwriting an earlier one. If you ask for it, the AI also writes a summary, the position step by step, and the points in favour, against and to watch, and before anything is sent JUDLEX says what goes out. Every sentence of that text has to cite something in the report. A sentence that cites a statute or a judgment, makes a forecast or gives a figure that is not there is dropped, and the report says how many were dropped and why. Points carry no score or scale. The report is not legal advice and does not work out deadlines, and it never says that something «was breached»: it says that no later filing is on record.

From quote to payment

The Fees section turns that same information into a phased quote. It starts from the rate card the firm sets up once under Settings → Fees (fixed price, hourly, per hearing, per unit, a percentage of the amount in dispute, or a success fee) and from templates by type of matter. JUDLEX brings no prices of its own. The result is a single document, engagement sheet included, that comes out as PDF and Word with the firm's letterhead and the lawyer's logo and signature, with no trace of JUDLEX, for the client to sign and return. It can be laid out in detail, phase by phase and item by item, or in general form, with the text of each phase and only the total including tax.

While it is a draft, everything can be changed and the sums redo themselves: base amount, VAT, withholding, disbursements and total payable. Issuing it gives it a number and freezes it; to change anything you make a new version under the same number, and the earlier one is marked as replaced. Without the lawyer's signature it cannot be handed over. The sheet the client sends back signed, whether scanned, photographed or a PDF with an electronic signature, joins the matter's papers; if it carries an electronic signature, JUDLEX shows whose it is without checking that it is valid, and «Sign with Autofirma» opens the PDF there to be signed. With the Correspondence and filings extension, which is bought separately, the quote and the client report can also be left as an email draft to the client. Each quote also takes a price adjustment by client or by case file, as a percentage or an amount, without touching the rate card, and the client can see either the adjusted prices or a separate discount line.

If you prefer, the chat proposes the whole quote. Each price comes first from your rate card; where an item has no price it looks for an average rate on the web, in the firm's country, and if it finds none it estimates. That search leaves without the client, the parties, the number or the court, is announced beforehand and is charged separately. Every figure that does not come from your rate card appears in amber with its source, and while one remains unconfirmed or an item has no price, the issue button stays off and says why. The issued document never reveals where a figure came from. With the quote open you can ask the chat for any change («put the hearing at €900», «add the appeal») and it is applied at once, with an «Undo» until someone saves over it.

Under the quote you record payments received: advances, instalments, funds for disbursements, with date, amount and method. JUDLEX shows what was quoted, what was collected and what is outstanding, with a bar for each instalment, and warns if too much was collected for disbursements. «Make the receipt» saves a PDF with the amount in figures and in words and a line stating that it is not an invoice. A payment is never edited or deleted: it is cancelled with a reason and struck through. The client's page adds up what is outstanding across all their case files.

Invoices follow Spain's VERI*FACTU electronic invoicing system, with its QR code and a record chained to the previous one, and they can be corrected, reissued or cancelled. Until a tax adviser has reviewed the implementation, everything goes to the Tax Agency's test environment: what is issued carries the series PRUEBA and the paper states that it is not a valid invoice.

The client report is written in plain language

The client report comes out of the status report and has four parts: what has happened, where the matter stands, what comes next and what the firm needs from the client. The lawyer can write it, or the AI prepares it through the chat. While it is being written JUDLEX flags jargon («emplazamiento», «otrosí») and any sentence of your own that cites a rule, makes a forecast or carries a figure that is not on record. It only flags; you decide. Favourable points come ticked and unfavourable or to-watch points come unticked. With an accepted quote you can add the accounts: quoted, collected and outstanding.

To export it you tick «I have reviewed it and it can go out», and the tick disappears if the draft or the case file data change. It comes out as PDF and Word with letterhead and signature, and it is listed with the name of whoever reviewed it.

The JUDLEX AI, for firms without a key

With its own key, a firm buys artificial intelligence straight from the provider it picks. The JUDLEX AI is the other route, for anyone who would rather not open an account or paste a key: JUDLEX chooses the model and what is used comes off a balance of credits on the licence. It is optional and ships switched off. You turn it on under Settings → Connections with Use JUDLEX AI, after reading and accepting a privacy notice. The mode you choose applies to the whole team: either the JUDLEX AI or your own key, never both at once.

A credit is one cent of a euro before tax, and the price of each call is the provider's cost plus a JUDLEX margin. Each seat, meaning each computer that can work under the licence, gets 500 credits a month as a gift; they do not carry over and are spent first. Packs of 1,000, 2,500 or 5,000 credits cost €10, €25 or €50 plus tax and never expire. The balance belongs to the licence, every seat draws on it, and only the owner buys.

What travels changes here. With the JUDLEX AI, the text each request needs goes from your computer to judlex.com and from there to Anthropic. JUDLEX does not keep it: for each call it records only the licence, the computer, the amount used and the time, never the text, the files or the answers. Anthropic deletes what was sent and returned within 30 days at most, unless its safety systems flag it as possible abuse, in which case it keeps it for up to 2 years; it does not use it to train its models. With your own key the text still goes straight from your computer to the provider, without passing through any server of ours.

If the credits run out, a long task finishes the documents it was working on and pauses, with Top up credits, «Resume» and «Stop»; when it resumes it does not redo what was done. A question in the chat waits with its own top-up button. What has been spent shows in credits under Settings → History.

More AI providers, and models up to date

Settings → Connections now shows the firm's own list of providers. A new firm starts with Anthropic and adds the rest (OpenAI, Google, xAI, DeepSeek, MiniMax) with Add provider. «Custom…» connects a service that does not come preconfigured, such as NVIDIA, OpenRouter, Groq or Mistral, or a server the firm runs itself, such as Ollama or LM Studio.

JUDLEX warns that it has not reviewed that service and makes no call until you accept. It takes secure addresses only, except for a server on the same computer or on the office network. Before letting a model read scanned pages it checks that the model can read a six-digit number in an image; if you switch that test off, the entry reads «vision not tested». If the service does not publish its price you can enter it; otherwise those calls show as «no cost figure» and are not added up. A custom provider has no web search.

The catalogue gains Claude Sonnet 5.5, Claude Haiku 5.5 and GPT-6.1 Terra, which replace Claude Sonnet 5, Claude Haiku 4.5 and GPT-5.6 Terra. Anything you had set with the earlier model moves to the new one by itself.

A chat that shows its work

When the chat works, on separating a client's documents for example, it reports as a list of steps that folds and unfolds: what is done, what is under way and what is waiting, with one line per document and the detail when you click it. JUDLEX writes those lines from the real figures, without AI, so they cost nothing and cannot get a number wrong. The task line carries Pause, «Resume» and «Stop». Pausing finishes what is in hand so it is not paid for twice, and stopping says how much was left undone. What is already done stays.

While it works you can ask it questions or give it something else to do, and the answer says it is based on what has been read so far. If your request collides with the task, say analysing a case file whose papers are still being separated, the chat offers three buttons: «Pause, do it and carry on», «When it finishes» and «No».

On large batches it separates several documents at once and produces the same papers and the same annex numbers as doing them one by one. Calls at once, under Settings → Connections, runs from 1 to 6 with 3 as the default; at 1 everything runs in sequence, and if a provider slows down JUDLEX steps down by itself and later climbs back.

A question can also be shared among several helpers that only read. «Cap per question» limits what one question spends, helpers included (US$0.25 by default, adjustable), and on reaching it the chat answers with what it has and says what it did not get to. If the connection drops, the chat carries on when it returns without repeating what it read; if you close JUDLEX halfway, the conversation picks up where it left off when you reopen it.

A chat that keeps trying, and remembers

Before showing an answer, JUDLEX checks that what it says is on the pages and whether something is missing. If something is missing, it tries another route (other words, the index, reading the whole paper) and says so in the panel. It tries a few times and within a spending cap; if it cannot find the fact, it says so along with what is on record and leaves «What I looked at» folded away. In Personal it talks about «your papers», never about a case file.

The Search the web when the papers are not enough switch, in the chat menu and on by default, lets the chat go and look, but only with Anthropic or OpenAI as provider. Only the search itself leaves, stripped of names, case file or policy numbers, registration plates and ID numbers; if it cannot be stripped, it does not leave. It is announced beforehand, you are told afterwards what was searched, what comes back appears apart with the mark «From the web» and its sources, and each search is charged. Your papers and the conversation never leave.

Long conversations keep their thread. When a conversation reaches about three quarters of what the model can take, the chat summarises the oldest part, says so, and leaves an amber line, «Everything above travels summarised», that you can open. Figures, dates and names are kept marked as unchecked, because a summary is not a source: in a matter, anything the chat states still needs its citation.

Each conversation remembers the provider, model and reasoning level you chose in it, and a new conversation starts with the last one you chose. If what you chose is not available, for example because the key was removed, it carries on with what Settings has, tells you, and keeps your choice for when it is available again. The chat also stays where it was when you go to My letters, My accounts, Settings or Correspondence: it changes conversation only when you enter another matter or case file, or pick another from the history.

Anything that uses AI runs in the chat

Buttons that use AI (read and separate, identify, «Ask the AI…» about an email, draft, explain a report) run in the chat: the screen confirms what will be sent and the work happens in view, step by step with a single Stop, so you can keep talking. An interrupted batch returns to its conversation. Anything one of those buttons does can also be asked for in writing.

With a matter in front of you, whatever you drag onto the chat panel or pick with the paperclip joins the matter, exactly as if you had dropped it on the client page. The paperclip also offers For this query only…: the paper does not join the matter, is not cited and is kept with the conversation. A screenshot pasted from the clipboard is always for the query alone.

The firm's own cloud

Under Settings → Data you connect the firm's own cloud account: Google Drive or Dropbox, authorised in the browser so JUDLEX never sees the password, or a server the firm runs (Nextcloud, S3-compatible storage, SFTP), which your IT person can set up from the guide that comes with it. Each connection is tested when you save it: JUDLEX uploads a file, downloads it, compares it and deletes it.

The backup uploads the database, the papers and the chat conversations, by itself after changes or with «Back up now», and keeps 30 daily and 12 monthly copies. The firm and Personal have separate backups. It leaves out the AI keys and the connection passwords. By default the backup is not encrypted: its files can be seen and downloaded from your cloud's website and restored without a password, but anyone who gets into that account can read them. When you switch it on, the screen sets both options side by side. If you choose encryption, the backup is encrypted on your computer with a password of at least 12 characters, and JUDLEX shows a recovery code once; if you lose both, nobody can open it, and that includes us.

To restore on a new computer, add the same connection and click Restore…. JUDLEX downloads the backup, checks every file before touching anything and moves whatever was there into a dated folder. The AI keys have to be entered again.

«Share» sends a whole matter or case file (papers, annexes, parties and facts with their citations) to a colleague on the same licence, and exists only in the Professional section. What you share always leaves encrypted. First you compare the security fingerprint of each of your colleague's computers, by phone or in person, and if a key changes it shows in amber and nothing is sent until it is checked again.

The colleague sees who it comes from, what it contains and whether the client already exists in their firm, and nothing comes in until they click the button that brings it in; on arrival JUDLEX checks who signed it and the fingerprint of every file, and checks each fact again against its page: one that does not match stays out, and you are told how many. Shared material is removed from the cloud once everyone has received it, or after 14 days. Correspondence, the diary and the deadline sheets of the extension do not travel with a share, and the notice says how many there are.

What you upload goes straight from your computer to your own account and does not pass through JUDLEX servers, encrypted or not. The only thing that reaches ours is the public half of each computer's encryption key, along with the licence, and it opens nothing.

Email and the correspondence register

This part belongs to the Correspondence and filings extension. JUDLEX can read incoming email with AI and file it under its matter, or prepare a draft, but only if you switch on two controls: Automatic steps, in the chat, and the reading option under Settings → Correspondence, which ships off. There are daily caps on emails read and drafts prepared, and switching reading on does not read what came before: that is a separate button. It files an email when something in it, such as a procedure number, a reference or a tax ID, matches a single matter. It sends no emails and signs no deadline on its own.

«Ask the AI…» on an email now reads the whole message: the header, the body, the text of PDF attachments up to 10 pages each, and up to 8 images or scans, which it looks at and transcribes. Before sending, it says that the full email is leaving and asks you to confirm. It is paid for each time, outside the daily cap, and whatever is left out, such as a Word attachment or pages beyond the limit, is stated in the answer. The answer appears in the chat with what was checked, and the decision is yours: «File it in a matter…», «Create a matter for it…» or «Discard it…».

The mailbox is arranged in three groups: Mail to decide on, Pending and Register. Discarded mail, the Chronology and the register search are paged instead of cut off, with 25 to 500 emails to a page. The register now covers incoming and outgoing mail, the outgoing with an S prefix, with pending items to draft, to send, to answer or without acknowledgement, and a Statistics screen: median days to reply, mail in and out by month, correspondents and the AI spend of Correspondence. Exporting the register works even without the extension. Outlook and Microsoft 365 cannot be connected.

Dates are read the way the paper writes them

A date in figures such as «02/10/2026» is 2 October on a Spanish letter and 10 February on an American one. JUDLEX settles the order from the paper itself, using the other unambiguous dates in the same document or a month written out in words, and not from the firm's country. If the paper does not allow it to know, the date is not taken as read: it is left as inferred, with both readings, and you pick one with a click. With a single piece of evidence that reading is applied but still marked as inferred. This happens in Classified, in the facts, in event dates and in My accounts. It does not resolve compact dates such as 05032024, or two-digit years.

Personal

In Personal it is matters throughout, and the word «case file» never appears. Documents in My letters are saved from the moment they start, and if something is cut off they are flagged to retry; they come out as PDF. They can lean on up to three papers from the matter: every figure they take carries its page and its sentence, both checked, and JUDLEX does the sums itself (half, fraction, percentage, addition, subtraction). The chat can edit the open draft without changing conversation. Public holidays can be loaded there too, and the explanation of a report stays in the chat so you can keep asking.

Account and licence

Anything added to a licence (more seats, an extension, the move to Professional) is charged at once, with the amount shown before you pay, and if the payment fails nothing is added. Payment for a change is made on a separate payment page, and if you close it without paying it cancels itself. What you remove is not refunded and runs on to the end of the period.

A computer can use the licence without signing in if someone who manages it authorises it from judlex.com. Under «My licences» the same website changes seats, switches computers on or off and cancels the licence, and nobody loses a seat without being asked. A licence granted as a gift shows in the Profile until when it lasts and lets you buy: payment replaces the gift. Downloading or updating JUDLEX needs no account, no card and no current licence. The help centre has a new section, «Troubleshooting», with eight articles; in those on payments, every notice says whether you have been charged or not.

The window itself

The bell now has «In progress»: whatever is running (AI, chat, downloads) with its progress and a Stop button where one is possible. Leaving a dialog with something typed or running asks first, and quitting or updating with tasks running shows the list of what would be cut off. JUDLEX fits small windows, down to 960 by 640: columns that do not fit are hidden, each row's menu stays within reach and surplus tabs move into «More».

Dates are written and requested according to the language and country of the firm's seat, with the month first in US English, and notices come with correct plurals in both languages. Deadline counting ships country rules with the rule cited, and says when a country has none loaded; it remains you who operates it and signs the result.

What does not change

Your papers stay on your computer unless you connect the firm's cloud, and the original is never touched. The JUDLEX AI is optional and ships switched off; with your own key everything stays as it was. JUDLEX does not draft substantive filings, does not work out deadlines on its own, and nothing the AI proposes is confirmed until you accept it.
