JUDLEX

Authorising a computer

What to do when JUDLEX says “This computer needs to be authorised”: request authorisation from the app and approve it at judlex.com.

A computer can use the licence without anyone signing in to the account on it, as long as someone who manages the licence authorises it from judlex.com.

JUDLEX asks for this with the notice This computer needs to be authorised. It appears when JUDLEX does not recognise the computer as the one registered on the licence: on a new computer that the firm's data has been moved to, for example. Your work is still there in the meantime, and you can view and export it.

The same button, Authorise this computer, also appears next to Sign in to my account when JUDLEX tells you that you are not signed in or that your session has expired. Use it if you would rather not sign in to the account on that computer.

Requesting and approving authorisation

  1. Click Authorise this computer

In the notice. The Authorise this computer window opens.

  2. Enter the account email

Under JUDLEX account email, enter the address of the account that holds the licence, yours or the firm's account holder's, and click Request authorisation. JUDLEX then shows Waiting for authorisation. The window says the same thing whether or not that address has a licence, so that it never reveals who is a customer; if you mistyped it, click Use another email.

  3. Approve it at judlex.com

Whoever manages the licence signs in at judlex.com and opens My licences. Above the Machines list, the Computers asking to use your licence card shows the computer's name, its operating system and when the request was made. Click Authorise.

  4. JUDLEX switches on by itself

Within a few seconds, the computer says This computer is now authorised and you can work as usual. There is nothing else to do.

If no seat is free

If you click Authorise while every seat is taken, judlex.com asks which computer should stop using JUDLEX, under There are no free seats left. Pick one and click Release this one and authorise. Nothing is deleted on the computer that gives up its seat: its case files stay where they are.

If you would rather not take a seat from anyone, add a seat first: Computers and seats at judlex.com.

If you do not recognise the request

Click Reject. The computer that asked says the request was declined from the account, and it does not activate. If that was a mistake, click Request it again on that computer.

If nobody answers, the request expires. The computer says so, and Request it again starts over.

Who can authorise

Whoever manages the licence: the account holder, for a licence in their own name; the owner or a manager, for an organisation's licence. Nobody else sees the requests.

If something goes wrong

  • JUDLEX cannot send the request and asks you to check your connection: check it and try again. If it still fails with a working connection, contact support: Getting help.

  • JUDLEX asks for authorisation again just after you authorised it: check that the computer's date and time are set automatically in its system settings, then request authorisation again.

  • The computer is shown as blocked under My licences: it cannot be authorised. Contact support.
