JUDLEX

Viewers

How each file opens in JUDLEX: viewers for images, PDFs, emails, Word, Excel and text, audio and video players, and their settings.

Every viewer and player comes with JUDLEX, in both sections, Personal and Professional. There is nothing to subscribe to.

How a file opens

A click on a file opens it according to what you chose for its type in Settings → Viewers: In JUDLEX, in the Simple viewer (the one built into the window) or With the computer, using the app you have for that type. A citation opens at its page when the viewer allows it.

Every file menu also has Open containing folder, which takes you to where the file sits on your computer.

The viewer

  • Images, with zoom, a small map to move around large ones, rotate and flip that only change how it looks (the original is never touched), compare two, and a slideshow.

  • PDFs, page by page, with a column of thumbnails.

  • Emails saved as a file.

  • Word and Excel.

  • Text and code.

The audio and video players

  • The sound waveform, to see where everything is.

  • Changing the speed.

  • Repeating a stretch between two points, A and B.

  • Stepping forward or back frame by frame.

  • Saving a frame as one more document of the matter.

JUDLEX does not transcribe audio or video: sound and picture play, but they are not turned into text.

The settings

Settings → Viewers has three parts:

  • How your files open. For each type of file, or the same for all, you choose between In JUDLEX, Simple viewer and With the computer.

  • Media tools. What JUDLEX needs to play videos and sounds the window cannot open, and to save a frame. They are optional: they are downloaded once, from our server, and take between 30 and 80 MB. JUDLEX asks before downloading them. Without them, whatever the window cannot open opens with your computer's app.

  • Viewer cache. The copies JUDLEX prepares to play what the window cannot open, plus covers, waveforms and the PDFs used to show Word and Excel files. When the limit is reached, the ones unused for longest are deleted.

None of those downloads carries anything from your office: JUDLEX only receives.

In the Linux version of JUDLEX that installs as a single file, audio and video always open with the computer's app. The installer-package version does play them inside.
