JUDLEX

Restore the firm from the cloud

Bring the firm to a new computer or go back to an earlier backup. An encrypted one asks for its password or the recovery code.

Restoring does two things: it moves the firm onto a new computer, and it lets you go back to an earlier backup.

On a new computer

  1. Install JUDLEX and activate it with your licence.

  2. In Settings → Data, add the same connection you used before: the same Google Drive or Dropbox account, or the same server. With an SFTP server that signs in with a key, this computer makes its own: someone has to add its line to the server before you restore (see SFTP). With a NAS that has its own certificate, compare its fingerprint again.

  3. Follow the steps below.

Step by step

  1. Open the wizard

In Settings → Data, under Restore from the cloud, click Restore….

  2. Choose where it is and how to open it

Choose the connection in Where the backup is. If the backup is encrypted, type the backup password or, with With the recovery code, the code. If it is not, leave it blank.

  3. Choose the backup

If more than one backup can be opened (from another computer, or from the Personal section), choose which one; each one says whether it is encrypted or unencrypted. Then choose the point in time: each backup shows when it was made and what it holds.

  4. Download and check

Click Download and check. JUDLEX downloads the whole backup and checks that every file is exactly the one that was uploaded. Up to this point it has not touched anything in your firm.

  5. Restore

Review what the backup contains (clients, case files, exhibits, facts and files) and click Restore.

What happens when you restore

  • What you had on this computer is not deleted: it is moved aside to a dated folder, and JUDLEX tells you where.

  • The cloud backup is paused. Once you have checked that everything is in order, turn it on again in Cloud backup: this computer starts its own backup and the old one stays as it was.

  • The connections will ask you to Sign in again: the password, key or permission is not in the backup. For an SFTP connection with a key, that means making a new key and having it added to the server.

  • The artificial intelligence keys are not part of the backup: enter them again in Settings → Connections.

If something does not add up

If a file in the cloud is not the one that was uploaded (because it is damaged or someone has tampered with it), JUDLEX stops before restoring and tells you. Your firm stays as it was. It checks this in the same way whether the backup is encrypted or unencrypted.

Without JUDLEX

An unencrypted backup can also be looked at from your cloud's website: in JUDLEX/backup/plain-…/files you will find your folders and files, with their names, ready to download. Restoring the whole firm, with its clients, case files and facts, is done from JUDLEX. An encrypted backup only opens with JUDLEX and its password or its code.
