JUDLEX

Connect Google Drive

What you will see when you connect JUDLEX to your Google Drive, what permission you give it and how to withdraw it.

What you need

A Google account, either a Gmail one or your firm's, and an internet connection.

Step by step

  1. Choose Google Drive

In Settings → Data, click Add a connection and choose Google Drive. If you like, give it a name in Connection name.

  2. Open the browser

Click Open the browser. Your browser opens on a Google page. JUDLEX never sees your account password: it only receives the permission you give it.

  3. Choose the account and give permission

Choose the Google account you want to use, check the permission JUDLEX asks for and click Continue.

  4. Go back to JUDLEX

The browser tells you that you can go back. JUDLEX creates its folder, tests the connection and adds it to the list.

What permission you give it

Google shows you a text similar to "See, edit, create and delete only the specific Google Drive files you use with this app". It means that JUDLEX can only see what it creates itself: its JUDLEX folder in My Drive and what is inside it. It cannot see the rest of your Drive: your documents, your photos, or what other people have shared with you.

That is also why, if you put a file into the JUDLEX folder by hand from the Drive website, the app will not see it. Nor can it delete it: if you ever press Delete the backup from the cloud…, JUDLEX deletes everything of its own, but the folder stays in your Drive with what you put there, and the app tells you so. You can delete it yourself from drive.google.com.

The JUDLEX folder

JUDLEX creates a JUDLEX folder in My Drive. Inside it go the backups (encrypted or unencrypted, depending on what you chose when you turned them on) and what you share, which is always encrypted and has names that give nothing away.

  • Do not delete the folder or anything inside it: those are your backups.

  • Do not move it or rename it.

If you delete it by mistake, look for it in the Drive bin as soon as possible.

Sharing with Google Drive

With Google Drive you can share with a colleague by link. The firm folder, which lets shared items arrive by themselves, is not available with Google Drive yet: if you need it, use Dropbox or your own server for sharing. See Share a matter or a case file with a colleague.

Space

A free Google account has 15 GB, shared between Gmail, Drive and Google Photos. If your email or your photos take up a lot of it, there will be less left for backups.

If your account belongs to the firm (Google Workspace)

Your account's administrator may have blocked apps they have not approved. If so, Google tells you when you connect, and you can ask them for access from that same notice.

Withdrawing the permission

You can take JUDLEX's permission away at any time from your Google account:

  1. Open https://myaccount.google.com/linkedapps

  2. Choose JUDLEX.

  3. Click Remove access and confirm.

The folder and the files stay in your Drive: they are not deleted. For JUDLEX to use it again, go to Settings → Data and click Reconnect in the connection's menu.
